Job Purpose

Responsible for the end to end delivery of one or more IT projects (up to a value of £1m capex) to agreed time, cost and quality in order to deliver business benefit.

Key Responsibilities

  • End to end delivery of one or more projects ensuring the most effective, timely and appropriate solutions are developed within agreed parameters of cost, timescales and quality to fulfil business requirements and enable benefit
  • Maintain appropriate project plans and track against key milestones
  • Actively manage change, risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies (CRAID)
  • Actively liaise with other project managers and IT colleagues to manage any project inter-dependencies
  • Keep robust financial control of project spend and take appropriate action when exceeding budget
  • Ensure that any IT project or associated change is transitioned carefully into live production support by defining appropriate service models and service level agreements
  • Manage the procurement process and subsequent contractual agreements with any required third party resources or suppliers ensuring we achieve the best value for money
  • Actively manage any third party resources or suppliers, any internal IT resources, and guide and support any business resources required to deliver the project(s)
  • Develop any internal IT team members in line with business and individual’s realistic career aspirations
  • Define, organise and participate in assessment centres and recruitment of internal IT resources
  • Inform project board and key stakeholders of the project progress in a weekly project update and escalate any key risks or issues in a timely manner
  • Produce any required deliverables associated with project delivery
  • Contribute to post implementation reviews and contribute back to the wider knowledge base of project management expertise
  • Provide IT input to strategic and cross functional working groups
  • Provide support to the annual IT budgeting and integrated planning process

Person Specification

  • Track record in the delivery of significant IT projects in a complex business environment throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Retail industry experience desirable
  • Knowledge and experience in using industry-recognised project management methodology
  • Knowledge of agile as well as waterfall methodologies desirable
  • Proven experience balancing multiple priorities and dealing with ambiguity
  • Experience in matrix-managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in project planning, budgeting and estimating, monitoring and controlling tools and techniques
  • Familiar with IT architecture, design, development methods and operational service
  • Good knowledge of IT investment evaluation, including cost/benefit analysis & estimating IT cost/resources etc. for both defined & undefined initiatives
  • Experience in line management of medium sized teams
  • Commercial experience in managing tenders and negotiating contracts with third parties
  • Good communication skills with the ability to relay relevant information remaining mindful of the audience
  • Degree education desirable
  • Prince 2 or similar qualification desirable
