The Role:

 

My client are now looking for a Software & Embedded Systems Engineer to join their small team of product development scientists and engineers. Your role would be firmware & software development for new instruments, as well as evolution and maintenance of firmware & software of current instruments. A feature of instruments is a close integration with Windows PCs via USB or Wi-Fi, where embedded processors perform all measurement and some local control and display functions and the Windows PCs provide the user interface, high-level signal processing, display and storage functions.

 

About you:

 

Your skill-set would include writing low-level portable drivers for digital components in embedded C, working with embedded buses, including I2C, SPI/QSPI (LCDs, SD Cards etc.), USB, EBI (External RAM/NAND), CAN, SSI & UART, experience with ARM Cortex-M architecture (such as Atmel SAM Xplained boards and Atmel Studio), experience with debugging real-time systems, using related tools (JTAG, oscilloscope, logic analyser etc.), experience with freeRTOS & bare-metal uC programming, a basic understanding of USB Bulk transfer from both system sides, uC and host PC (WinUSB), C/C++, C#, .Net and multithreaded programming.

 

Qualifications are less important than proficiency. We expect you to be self-motivated and able to work largely unsupervised. We would provide training as appropriate and support you in your continuing professional development. As a member of a small team, we expect you to contribute to the successful development of the company in other ways, including customer support, idea generation, supervision of interns, etc.

Working hours and holidays are flexible. Starting salary: approximately £28k depending on qualifications, skills and experience, reviewed after a 6-month probation.
