Network Engineer working for an incredibly prestigious and reputable organisation within the education sector. The organisation is one of the UK’s leading college with an outstanding working environment in which the Network Engineer can progress.  The Network Engineer will be to assist the Senior Network Engineer in all areas of network infrastructure support including hardware, software, systems and servers.

They must be up to the challenge of working under pressure in a demanding but rewarding environment. They need to be a flexible team player who must also capable of working under their own initiative and who will make a fresh and positive contribution to the IT team.

 

The Network Engineer’s Responsibilities:

  • Manage all network and Wi‐Fi systems within the college to provide a platform for both teachers and students to work efficiently.
  • Manage networked computer and security systems such as Antivirus and patch management within the college to ensure security compliance.
  • Install, diagnose and solve hardware and software faults.
  • Amend network security & access rights as agreed.

 

The Network Engineer will have the Following Technical Expertise and Experience:

  • 2‐3 years’ experience supporting and managing networked computers.
  • Excellent working and troubleshooting knowledge of Windows and Apple Mac.
  • The candidate would ideally have worked in a similar environment with hands on skills in the following areas: Software and Hardware troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience managing industry standard software packages for backup, anti‐virus and security.
  • Active Directory administration – creating OUs, Security Groups in addition to creating user and computer accounts
  • Understanding of Networking Fundamentals and basic building blocks such as DHCP, DNS, IP Schemas and VLANs and a basic understanding of a VMWare environment.

 

The Network Engineer Role / Duties:

  • To assist the Senior Network Engineer in all areas of network support.
  • Installing and managing network deployed software, including programs for Internet security, antivirus, backup, patch management and workstation integrity including safeguarding and deep freeze technologies.
  • Supporting and maintaining network servers.
  • Supporting and maintaining network attached devices – e.g. Interactive wipe boards or networked computer lockers.
  • Management of the College’s email storage systems.
  • Supporting server base applications within Schools and Departments of the College, particularly Engineering, Media and the Learning Resource Centre.
  • Providing hardware and software technical support to users of the computer network.
  • Act as the main point of contact on technical issues.
  • Preparation and maintenance of documentation.
  • Assisting fellow engineers within the team by providing guidance and technical training where required.
  • Managing the Active Directory environment and the HP network infrastructure.
  • There will also be a requirement to occasionally visit other parts of the college based in different buildings/towns to undertake the same duties as described above.
