Due to the nature of this position you must have a full clean driving licence and your own vehicle. You must also appreciate, due to the nature of this position that you will be required to undertake a full DBS/CRB check.

 

The Data Protection Officer Role:

 

Is working for a fast-growing and extremely successful organisation within the education industry. We are looking for an experienced Data Protection Officer with an expert level knowledge of Data Protection Law and Practise, to join the compliance team within our client. This is a newly created role and will focus on the development of the team approach to the management of risk and policy. You will play a key role in advising the organisation on Data Protection best practice, policy and procedure.

The Data Protection Manager Role:

Your role will be to act as the designated Data Protection Officer under statute and to lead the Data Protection function to develop, review and update organisation wide policies on an ongoing basis.

The Data Protection Officer will be responsible for the successful monitoring of compliance with requirements regarding data protection impact assessments and ensuring that risks are mitigated. You will act as organisational contact with the Information Commissioner (ICO) and will be an expert in Data Protection Law and Practice in order to raise awareness and train staff.

 

The Data Protection Manager Duties:

 

  • Act as the organisational contact with the Information Commissioner and ensure his/her contact details are published and relayed to the ICO
  • Consult with the Information Commissioner where required under statute or suggested under ICO guidance.
  • Act as the designated point of contact for any data subject relating to the processing of their personal data and/or the exercise of their rights under data protection law.
  • Advise on the carrying out of data protection impact assessments.
  • Monitor compliance with requirements regarding data protection impact assessments and ensure that risks are mitigated.
  • Co-operate with the Information Commissioner. Implement changes in guidelines from the ICO in a timely fashion. Be responsible for ensuring that data breaches are reported to the ICO in line with current legislation.
  • Monitor compliance with policies relating to the protection of personal data.
  • Assign responsibilities under internal policies relating to the protection of personal data; raise awareness within the organisation of those policies; train staff involved in processing operations; and conduct audits required under those policies.
  • Maintain and update on a regular basis, the data protection and privacy risk register and associated documentation.

 

The Data Protection Manager Candidate:

 

The successful candidate will have;

 

  • Expert level knowledge of Data Protection Law and Practice.
  • Relevant qualifications in support of Data Protection Law and Practise.
  • Experience or working with the ICO, including consulting with the Information Commissioner under ICO guidance, acting as the designated point of contact and implementing changes in guidelines from the ICO.
  • Extensive experience in a data protection role.
  • Experience of working within a role that ensures organisational compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Experience supervising and supporting a team.
  • In addition, experience of data protection within the education sector, knowledge of IT Security best practise and any of the following qualifications (BCS Information Security Management Principles, BCS Foundation in Data Protection, / Information Risk Management / Information Assurance Architecture, ITIL Foundation, IT Security Certification) would a distinct bonus!
