Salary: c£70,000

Our client is building a platform which utilises automation and AI to radically change the way schools monitor academic progress and mental health whilst reducing teacher workload. They are looking for a highly motivated Machine Learning Engineer to take a leading role in the development of the platform and the development of algorithms which have the potential to positively enhance the lives of millions of learners.

What will your working week be like?

  • Apply and develop new machine learning techniques to improve the platforms recommendations and predictions.
  • Write production-level code and deploy ML-powered applications for a range of functions within the platform.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to define and prioritize data-driven projects.
  • Analyse large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform decision-making and drive business growth.
  • Design and implement experiments to test hypotheses, evaluate model performance, and optimize algorithms.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning models for applications, including sentiment analysis, entity recognition, and natural language understanding.
  • Help to define and drive forward looking ML strategy for the team and across the company.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest NLP research and apply new techniques to our applications.

Do you have the required skills and experience?

  • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related field.
  • Experience with state of the art ML modelling techniques and approaches like transformers, self supervised pre-training, generative modelling, LLMs, etc.
  • Experience with large scale data processing (e.g. Hive, Scalding, Spark, Hadoop, Mapreduce).
  • Hands-on experience training and applying models at scale using deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or Tensorflow.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in working with user-facing products.

Beneficial to have the following:

  • Experience with cloud-based machine learning platforms such as Azure, AWS SageMaker or Google Cloud AI Platform
  • Deep understanding of SQL and related query languages.
  • Deep understanding of statistical modelling, machine learning techniques, and algorithms, including regression, classification, clustering and optimization
  • Demonstrated ability to work with large datasets and develop scalable solutions.
