Senior Development Lead & Scrum Master

Location: Crawley, West Sussex, UK (home based during Covid)

Job Type: Full-time, permanent

We are recruiting for a profitable privately-owned company based in Crawley that deliver through their network of IT and telecoms partners globally and have over 7,000 active customer sites.

Working with the Head of Development, the Senior Development Lead & Scrum Master will be responsible for the technical direction of your team, with Software Development Leads and Senior Front-end/Back-end Developers looking to you as you apply your experience, developing the platform in a scalable and quantifiable way.

The Senior Development Lead & Scrum Master will be jointly responsible for the direction of the architecture, software delivery and leadership of the team, including the recruitment and mentoring of new internal team members.

As a Senior Development Lead & Scrum Master, you will lead, develop and manage the sprint planning, groom backlogs, daily stand-up, as well as bring continuous improvements with best practices of agile methodologies. You will also spend time writing server-side back-end or front-end React/JavaScript code.

£70,000-£75,000 + 25 days holiday, 5% employer pension, Healthcare AXA-PPP + excellent training and development.

What Will The Successful Candidate Be Like?

This role will suit a highly skilled software developer with management experience. You will have extensive commercial experience developing web applications in a range of technologies and programming languages (in particular Java SE or EE) and also must have guided or managed team members in an agile environment.

With an exceptionally strong software coding background, you will develop an expert technical understanding of our web application and use your excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships with colleagues where you effectively communicate at all levels.

Senior Development Lead & Scrum Master Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day mentoring of team members in addition to technically supporting them in their design, coding and testing activities.
  • Develop yourself as a design authority expert across various technical areas of the product.
  • Full software lifecycle involvement in enhancing our web application, e.g. designing, coding, and maintaining server-side components in Java.
  • Collaborate with the front-end Development team and back-end Development Leads to drive the architecture end to end.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and negotiate product features to be developed for future releases. You will be expected to give your innovative ideas/inputs to the Product team.
  • Take full responsibility of our agile software development activities, i.e. daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and backlog creation activities.
  • Write supporting design and technical documentation.
  • Employee line management and HR duties including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, mentoring, and appraising staff.

Senior Development Lead & Scrum Master Experience – Essential:

  • Extensive experience developing multi-threaded server-side applications using Oracle Java, including exceptional knowledge of Generic Programming.
  • Good communication and documentation skills with the ability to liaise across different project stakeholders.
  • Up-to-date general knowledge of current web and mobile technologies including designing APIs, core Java with a strong knowledge of designing/implementing multi- threaded applications, Java frameworks, JavaScript and web Front-End frameworks.
  • Experience of various services within AWS e.g. EC2 servers, Virtual Private Clouds, S3 storage, and CloudWatch monitoring.
  • Extensive experience in running agile projects.
  • Previous experience in managing and mentoring team members.

Senior Development Lead & Scrum Master Experience – Desirable:

  • Dynamic web page generation using Java Server Pages
  • Linux configuration and administration skills
  • Linux Shell scripting knowledge
  • Knowledge of databases and SQL
